Summary. We analyse the existence of transitory ischemic attack (TIA) as predictor of stroke, the location of TIA, the duration of TIA, the number of TIA, the time between appearance of TIA and stroke occurrence on dependence of stroke etiology. Patients with large vessel disease more often had TIA before stroke, the territory of TIA more often was ipsilateral to stroke territory, the number of stroke was greater, the time between TIA and stroke was shorter, the duration of TIA was shorter than in patients with small vessel disease and cardioembolism. The above mentioned characteristics did not differ between patients with cardioembolism and small vessel disease.
