New antidepressants: mechanisms of action

Summary. The new antidepressants are generally efficacious as the older tryciclic antidepresants and monoamino oxidase inhibitors, but have safety advantages. Citalopram, fluvoxamine, venlafaxine, mirtazapine and reboxetine have been recently introduced into Lithuanian clinical practice. A mechanism of action of these antidepressants are difference and explaining the nature of depression, perhaps should not.
